Built in the 1900s and sitting on a steep block overlooking Moreton Bay, this classic Queenslander required sensitive handling to create a contemporary home that reflected the historical charm and elegance of yesteryear.

The project had a few challenges which Luke Kruberg and the team handled effortlessly. Firstly the plans were subject to Council’s earthworks approval. Luke liaised directly with the Council and sorted out any issues. The project involved: extensive excavation, demolition of some areas, repositioning, plus the building of new additions as well as major infrastructure works. Throughout the project, Luke kept the clients informed and any challenges were solved without any dramas.

The culmination of months of hard work paid off with a magnificently renovated Queenslander that pays homage to its original character and is fully functional for modern family living.

The house featured a beautifully restored and perfectly balanced façade all built to original scale. The existing verandah along the front and on one side was mirrored to wrap around the other side. Throughout the home were luxurious modern finishes and appliances, with an expansive kitchen and living rooms making most of the view and sizable footprint of the home.

Our clients were thrilled with the outcome and enjoyed the whole building process.This success was reinforced through the awarding of the 2015 HIA-CSR Brisbane Housing Awards Renovation & Addition Project. The judges commented that:

“it was impossible to tell where the new started and the old finished. Internally the design has all modern facilities while retaining the best features of the original house.”

In 2016, the Mainly Project was recognised as a Finalist in HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards Renovation & Addition Project category
