The renovation of this prewar home aimed to create a family home that was adaptable, multifunctional and had strong connection between the indoor and the outdoor spaces. The design was thought it in a way that the residents’ character and future needs would be met.

The renovation involved demolition of internal walls to create a bigger living space, an extension on the rear part of the home which now accommodates a new master bedroom, ensuite and study. The outdoor space was completely redone and included the construction of a deck, concrete pool, arbour, carport and landscaping.

The details of design and construction of the home enhance the original character of the home while being able to introduce modern features and materials. The York St façade has been kept to create a basis for the textures and colours used in the interior part of the house. White VJ walls, exisiting bronze electrical features and natural timber floors are seen throughout the home. Natural colours and textures (nickel, leather, oak) flow from the kitchen and bathrooms onto the bedroom extension, creating compatibility between the old and the new.

The details in the home that are adaptable and multifunctional can be experienced through the open living space, cabinetry that allows kids to reach higher spots in the bathroom, guest bedrooms that can be folded away and the outdoor area that has a connection to almost every part of the home.

The vertical, silver top ash cladding in the master bedroom presents a contrast to the original character of the home while creating a strong focal point to the Duhig St entrance. The concrete arbour, pool edge and BBQ concrete frame proved to be an exciting challenge for our team as the formwork was done internally. The combination of concrete and natural wood correspond to the natural palette seen throughout the home.

The construction and design of this renovation are not only visually stunning, but has workmanship that has allowed the original character and the modern features to be cohesive and functional.
