The idea of a renovation for Henderson grew as this young family needs have changed and required prioritisation of comfort, accessibility, safety and long-term living. The owners had been living in this in this pre-war Queenslander for close to a decade and developed a sense of what would be needed to raise three young children into adulthood.

They also had to consider ongoing medical issues for a younger family member. As there has been a good amount of time spent in hospitals, it was important to keep the features of this home non-clinical, textural and comfortable for its residents and potential carers. To be able to provide stability and life-long residential care, durable materials and a timeless aesthetic were essential for the low maintenance and longevity of the home.

Starting on the ground floor, concrete floors, wide-door entrances and bench vanities, were chosen to accommodate potential daily wheelchair use, live-in carers and indoor service dogs. The open plan living from the kitchen to allows the family to coexist but also assist when necessary.

An important feature of the home is the use of technology, from using keypad front and pantry doors, induction cooktops, cameras, and in-bedroom microphone. All blend seamlessly into the decor of the home while providing full-service and safety features for the residents and carers.
